Yes, you also need to download the support files. There were some details about this somewhere in the readme. The confusion may have arisen because you need to use an older version with the beta.

Dawn doesn't really have any crazy dependencies. If you have a normal C++ compiler it should work.

Random numbers are used all over in the codebase. Just read a bit of code you know uses random numbers and you'll figure it out. Fight.cpp is probably a good place to look.

Ah, oh well. I remember seeing similar errors on PowerPC machines because of their different endianess, but I guess that's not the issue.
