As I've stated before in previous posts I'm working on creating a Dragonlance based world using the DoT codebase. So far everything is awesome, and with Ixliam's help we now have a working Draconian death-system. I'm wondering if it's possible to make it so the 'spell casting' of the mud would reflect the Dragonlance world. In Dragonlance, magic users had to spend time each day commiting spells 'learned' to memory, and once those spells were casted they were 'forgotten' until re-memorized. As mages became more powerful, certain spells no longer required 'memorizing'.. (utility spells, cantrips, basic damage etc.) and/or spells could be cast multiple times before having to commit them to memory again. This ontop of a working 'spellbook' for mages would make for the ultimate Dragonlance experience.. and any help would be appreciated.

I would like to implement this idea as well. It would require some tweaking of spells, most likely a complete overhaul of the spell system, as well as the combat system. Mages, clerics, and druids would all have similar spells, but different in nature. For example, a mage would use hold person, whereas a druid would use something like paralyze or entangle.

I know this is a super old post but I ran across a ROM snippet that might be a good match for the request. Maybe someone in the future will see this and find it useful.

"This snippet allows the removal of mana from the mud and the use of
memorization to accomplish spell_casting. The concept it uses is that of
circles of power. Each spell has a certain power "rating", which is referred
to as a circle. The circle rating of a spell decides when the spell can be
memorized (what level). The number of spells of a given level that can be
memorized also changes as the player's level increases. Mobs and immortals
do not have to memorize a spell to be able to cast it."
