Hi all,

I am looking to create (or possibly have someone else create/maintain), a some of resources on the Dawn website.

Specifically I am looking for documentation on how to build using the dawn olc interface etc... just stuff to get new builders started.

Has anyone written any of these types of resources for their own staff and would be will to share it (assuming it is of sufficient quality for the site)?

Anyone interested in the possiblity of maintaining a resources/documentation/snippets type site?

- Kal

I assume you aren't refering to the builders guide which documents the rom areafile format?

If you are refering to the olc building guide we had back about 3 to 4 years ago, I have no idea where that went, but it is long gone now.

Realms of Aloreth has a build guide posted at:
http://www.aloreth.com/building.php
or a direct link: http://www.aloreth.com/RoA_Builder_Manual_v2.doc

It's an OLC build guide, made by Nargor, Sarolite, and myself:
Quote:

This version has used, edited and added to version 2.01 of The Dawn of Time Builder's Handbook, 13 Nov 1998.builders' guide was updated and added to by Nargor, Archiel and Sarolite to reflect the uniqueness and balance rules of Realms of Aloreth, as well as code changes in the original code as well as custom code changes on RA. Changed or edited chapters have a small credits section at the end.

I can't say how much we made, since it was a colaborative effort. I think the tables are mostly pasted out of places. Anyway, it's tweaked a bit to reflect our mud. However, anyone is free to use it, but I ask before you take it to change it email me so I can make an official decision and not get in trouble. Mr. Green

More original credits:
Quote:

This guide was originally updated by Reave to reflect modifications made to the Oblivion Code/Format by Airius, and most recently Kalahn, Reave, Thaddeus, and Kerenos. It is based on the Oblivion 1.2 builder's guide, and borrows heavily from the ROM 2.3/2.4 builder's guide, the AnonyMUD/Barren Realms builder's guide, and of course, the database.doc file from the folks at good old DIKU.Dawn of Time MUD can be accessed by telnet to dawn.stwing.upenn.edu 1234 or 130.91.188.192 1234.Dawn of Time WWW pages are currently under construction and should always be found at dawn.stwing.upenn.edu on your browser.,
Lord of Realms
Kalahn, Implementor@home.com, kalahn@pobox.com

Ah, pieces were also adapted from Daos' Builder's guide with his permission. (from Darkening Sun's web page.) Exact credits are noted at the end of each section anyway.

Hehehehe dawn.stwing.upenn.edu... that is going back a bit.

Yeah, that manual is heavily based on the ROM manual which doesn't really help on the current olc features.

The Realms of Aloreth manual looks like it has potential. Caharin, How would guys feel if we took that and made it html and more generic to put somewhere on the dawn site?

Sure Kal,
We talked about it a bit, and we'll put some more work into it and keep it up. There's an mprog guide somewhere too. Mostly just copy paste of the helpfiles, but they make for a great resource anyway. We did intend to make them html so everyone could view it, anyway.

I've got finals in 2 or 3 weeks, but after that i'll have more time.

If you want, email it to me at Archiel@aloreth.com and I'll take a look at it and add what ever is missing to the mprog guide we made.
Thanks patories! I'll actually post them too, and the updated ones. There's a csci conference this weekend, but I think that i'll have some spare time Smile

That was a whole year ago! It's long since disappeared.

Haha, for now check www.aloreth.com... There should be something helpful there. A somewhat updated build guide should be coming sometime. Thanks for reminding me about that.

I've looked everywhere most of the links no longer work. Is there any updated versions of building guides for the latest release of Dawn? I would be most appreciative!

Thanks in Advance,
Kethlae

Wow. Our builder's document really does go back quite a few years. Glad that was pointed that out. Time for updating Wink
