Hello. I am trying to add an area to our MUD that we've had previously, but its been giving me no end of trouble. I added it to the arealist.txt file, and when I try to reboot, it fails. Any suggestions would be more than helpful Smile. Thank you.

We can't help you if you don't provide an error more specific than that Razz.
Best would be to post the gamelog of one of such failed boot, under "/logs/game/....".
Also, is the area file in the area directory? The easiest way to make sure it is in the right place would be to verify it is in the same one as dawn.are Very Happy.

Is the game still running this happens, or does it just hang?
Is the file an original DoT file, or is it an import of some sorts?

The game is not running at this time. The file is imported, but it has worked in the past, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I'm out of idea's then, I could help you further by running DoT through a debugger if you sent me the file, but I'm not sure if that's an option considering for you, let me know Smile.

Hi -

Hi - typically if someone is in an OLC editor during a hotreboot after you imported an area, it will simply load the last saved arealist.txt file which will cause your hotreboot failures or missing area file on the area list. Your best bet after a hotreboot failure is to investigate in logs/game/*. as per Alturin suggested (tail -n 200 logs/game/_____.log) will show you the last 200 lines of the game log before the nasty_signal_handler() is called.

Hi - We got the area to add in just fine, now it simply crashes when I asave. (That's another post, sorry about that).

Is this area imported from another MUD or format? Run gdb on it when it crashes:

gdb dawn -core=dawn.core
