An HTML Dawn of Time Builder's Guide now exists! It looks pretty plain, but I wrote some really cool PHP to give every page a header and a footer, and to automatically generate a table of contents.

Anyway:

http://www.aloreth.com/buildguide/

There's a decent amount of stylistic information in there, so if there is interest (Kalahn?) I can remove the references to RoA in another copy.

Suggestions, addtions, and corrections are more than welcome!
---------
EDIT:

The build guide information is now found at http://docs.dawnoftime.org/

--------
EDIT AGAIN:

Nope, go back to http://www.aloreth.com/buildguide/ for now.

If people here are familiar with twiki web sites, (like http://www.wikipedia.com) do you think this would be a good format for the build guide?
It would allow anyone to edit the HTML on the webpage of the build guide. It archives all the changes to one can revert to an earlier version if 'undesired' changes are made.

I checked out the wikipedia site. It looks fairly easy to edit a page. I've made a lot of changes for my mud and I would like to be able to edit the help files if I use ones provided for Dawn. I like that you can make changes directly, but when my mud goes public I'm sure my group would like to have a site that is graphically more appealing.

dartmud.dyndns.org/ is a mudding site that uses wiki. It seems to be going well for them.
If there's more interest, I'd be glad to set up the build guide so that anyone could easily contribute.
It doesn't make sense for every mud needing to develop their own guide if there're all going to be the same anyway.... ALthough the things specific to Realms of Aloreth, I'll pull those aside to avoid confusion.

@Caharin

Well Done! I for one appreciate your sharing!

SOo. any chance in future updates of a diff file? for those of us that just HAVE to have a local copy when not tuned into the net.

i.e. I'm not asking for a patch file that just runs. (although...) Just a file (olcupdateXX-XX-XX.txt) documenting what has been changed/added/pagenumber regarding status quo.

yip, now one can see why I started this reply with well done!

Seriously though, thanks for any consideration. The resource as it is is an invaluable piece of material.

I'm glad people are finding it helpful.
However, the build guide is pretty much going to be 100% web based and in html format from now on.
However, since there's request for an offline version.... I'll see what options there are....

No problem.

So, docs.dawnoftime.org will be undergoing some changes. Stay tuned!
